Céline Struger
Céline Struger (*1982) is an Austrian artist working in sculpture and site-specific art. Her work explores themes such as post-capitalism, ecology, and mythology. Struger often uses water as a sculptural medium, integrating both found and handmade objects into her sculptures and large-scale installations.
Her artistic focus lies in exploring the Genius Loci of a space and its subconscious in times of digital representation. Her approach, which can be described as Freudian, aims to unearth alternative versions of actual places. These fictional scenes are set either in a post-apocalyptic future or a long-forgotten past, with the constant element being the unique architecture of the location. By using the ephemeral nature of water, she seeks to integrate the finite nature of site-specific work into traditional concepts of sculpture and installation.
Struger was recently awarded the studio scholarship in Paris by the Austrian Ministry of Culture (2023) and has exhibited at Galerie She BAM! in Leipzig (solo show), Artocène Chamonix in France, and the Dalseong Daegu Contemporary Art Festival in Daegu, South Korea (group show). In 2022 and 2021, she showcased her work at MQ Art Box in MuseumsQuartier Vienna (solo show), Loggia Vienna (solo show), and TEA Tenerife Espacio de las Artes (group show). The artist lives and works in Vienna.
